My reflection:
Today is Saint Nicholas day. Nicholas may be the most popular saint of all time. Thousands of churches are named after him. He seems to be portrayed by artists more than any other saint, with the exception of Mary. There are hundreds of delightful legends about him. However historians know almost nothing for sure about his life.
A story is told about a man who is so poor that he could no longer buy food for his family. He was going to sell his daughters into slavery so they wouldn’t starve. Bishop Nicolas found out about this. So at night he tossed three bags of gold into their house through a window.
The name Santa Claus means Saint Nicholas. in the 1800s, New York department stores began to hire men to dress up as Saint Nicholas so that more shoppers would come in to buy Christmas presents.
With all the hustle and bustle getting ready for Christmas let us pause and remember the Spirit of Saint Nicholas.

My reflection:
“Life can be so busy, and we sometimes take for granted the important little things that make us smile. Look at the sunset, share a cup of coffee with your best friend, or hear the wind rustle through the trees. Take some time to listen to life and feel the sun on your face. Stop to watch butterflies in your garden.”
During this Advent time let us take the time to recognize God’s presence in our life. O come, O come, Emmanuel

My reflection:
“Always see the goodness in this world, do your part in helping those less fortunate, walk hand-in-hand with those of less talent, follow those of more knowledge, and be an equal with those who are different. Find your special purpose in this world so full of choices, and help lead those who stray. Become your own individual – set yourself apart from those who are the same.
Have the self-confidence to say no when it is necessary and the strength to stand alone. Give yourself the approval to love and respect everything that you are and will become. Reap the fruits of your talents, walk with pride down the road of life, be humble in your successes, and share in the praises and joy of others. Most of all, be happy. For when you are happy, you have the key that will open all of the world’s doors to you.” Jackie Olson

My reflection:
“Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling five balls in the air. You name them – work, family, health, friends, and spirit – and you’re keeping all of these in the air. you will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls-family, health, friends, and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.”

I find this image very interesting but very true. Let us pause and remember what is important in our life. ?

My reflection:
“Go outside and look at the sky. Soak in the atmosphere. Enjoy the colors of the landscape. Feel the textures of every place you are that you’re thankful for. Smile at the world. Don’t allow any negative feelings to creep into your consciousness. Feel the power of your own acceptance. Put a positive spin on every thought you have.
Make every day special. On it. Enjoy it. Bask in the glory of life. Appreciate the gift of your own life.” Donna Fargo
God has given us so many gifts. Let us stop and thank God for all the gifts that we have received especially the gift of life.?

My reflection:
“Material wealth definitely has its merits – but it alone cannot provide the riches of a truly meaningful life. A truly meaningful life possesses an inherent sense of both self and purpose. It celebrates truth, love, and freedom and remains forever appreciative of its blessings. It is a life that gives and cares and makes a difference in endless poignant ways. It leaves the world a far better and brighter place than it would have otherwise been.
People are often looking for ways to measure the worth of their lives. The most fortunate among them come to realize that you need not have the finest education to possess the greatest wisdom or the biggest bank account to feel rich beyond measure. For if you are joyful and share your bliss at every turn, then you walk among the most successful beings to ever grace this earth.” Lynn Keachie
I believe God gives us the graces we need each day.?

My reflection:
My good friend, Sister Ellen Shea died this morning. She touched many lives throughout her years of teaching. After leaving teaching she ministered to the divorced and separated Catholics in the archdiocese of Hartford and she also became the Director of Rainbows for All God’s Children. As Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy said, “Shall we all meet in heaven? Oh what a joy even to think of it!

My reflection is from Living Faith:
Come, let us climb the Lord’s mountain… They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
Once, I climbed up Mount Rainier
in Washington State, glorious and beautiful, with vistas of magnificent trees giving way to glaciers – a long
and steep climb for one unaccustomed to such treks. Perhaps I wouldn’t have persevered on my own, but I was buoyed up by my cousin and my 80-plus-year-old aunt walking with me, who knew the path well. There is a way, Isaiah tells us today, to get where we can dream but cannot manage on our own. We need one another to climb the mountain, and we can do it because it is the mountain of the Lord. Can I on my own-can we, alone without God-
make peace? No. But because it’s God‘s way, and because we climb this mountain together, we can find the way of peace. We don’t have to reshape everybody else’s swords into plowshares, we only have to reshape our own.
Let us go up with you, O Lord rejoicing in your way of peace.

My reflection today is from Living Faith:
do not become drowsy from… the anxieties of daily life… Luke 21:34
“It is very easy to get caught up in the daily anxieties of the world. These days, there is a lot to be anxious about!
But in advance, we step back for a moment and refocus. Where are we ultimately headed? What is of greatest importance? Once again, we are reminded of how transitory all our daily concerns are.
We are headed for God’s Eternity; God must be first in our lives. So, we take a deep breath and relax. We may have been too tense, too preoccupied, too concerned with every day life.
When we relax and open our spiritual eyes to God’s presence, we become spiritually “awake.” In Advent, and always, we are called to be vigilant
Heavenly God, let me always be vigilant with my eyes fixed on you, until the day when you finally call me home.” Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti
My friend’s stroke reminded me how important it is to be in touch with people who have touched our lives.❤️

My reflection:
“Beyond your challenges, beyond your successes, beyond the events with which life has molded your spirit, there is a placeless place within you. It is a place of peace. It is a place of freedom. It is the place where the Self you have been seeking resides.”
Barbara DeAngelis, PhD
Barbara says -the Self I believe it is the Spirit of God.
