My reflection today is from Fresh Bread by Joyce Rupp:

“I think that is what it is like to be a letter from Christ which the author of Corinthian’s writes of in chapter 3. You are yourselves our letter, written in our hearts, that anybody can see and read, and it is plain that you are a letter from Christ, drawn up by us, and written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but on the tablets of your living hearts (2 Corinthians 3:2-3)”

As I said yesterday, a letter, text, or email is a letter from Christ. Each one of us is a reflection of Christ’s love and concern. Oh how our world needs that today. Each one of us needs to share our positive energy; the energy that comes from our God

My reflection today comes from Fresh Bread by Joyce Rupp:

“You are a letter from Christ in the mailbox of my life I found many forms of letters but the ones I’ve most rejoiced in are the ones sent from my Lord. they look most ordinary that no one would suspect they bear the blessed message of the truth about my heart. some letters bring me challenge to forgo my heart in ways; some letters invite happiness and promise new delight. some letters gift my days with hope when all the world seems dark; some letters bear tough questions regarding weakness and sin. some letters send me healing when my heart is weary; some letters speak of loving and of giving beyond cost. some letters make me wonder how I ever could refuse, for they are letters of proposal for a love life with my God. I know that I’ll keep coming to the mailbox of my life, because the letters tell of Jesus and pursue me with his truth.”

Well, we can certainly tell that this book was written 25 years ago. Now, it would be: you are the text or the email of Christ.

Today, I was reflecting what is it to be a letter text or email of Christ? I never really thought about all the different letters, cards, texts or emails that I get as being a gift from Christ. ?

My reflection today:

“ Positive thinking is the most effective tool ever created for lifting an individual to the greatest achievements humanity can aspire to. Montague Edwards

Positive thinking is the ultimate triumph of mind over matter; the victory of the spirit over all the shadows lurking in the world.”
Martin A. Browning

I never thought of positive thinking as being an effective tool but it really is… It also helps us look at things in a different way.

Maybe the media should consider trying positive thinking.?

My reflection today:

“Positive thinking is the key which unlocks the doors of the world. There is something in us which corresponds to that which is around us, beneath us, and above us. Samuel McChord Crothers

Positive thinking is knowing that, in the grand scheme of things, we live in a world where rainy days eventually give way to sunnier skies.” R. L. Keith

In our world where there is so much negativity each one of us must not get swallowed up but send out positive messages to each one we meet. Some days are better than others but as nature shows us, even on the darkest days, the sun is always shining even though we can’t see it. Have a wonderful day

My reflection today comes from Living Faith:

“He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I will do it. be made clean. “ Matthew 8:3

“The hand we stretch out in our attempt to live as lovingly as Jesus did might not bring about physical healing like that of the leper’s,but we can at least momentarily relieve another person from his or her discomforting situation. We can extend our hand of kindness in such a way that it leaves the other person with a touch of Christ-like care: the hand sending a positive social media message or writing a letter of affirmation, the hands reaching for a crying child, the hand offered to an elderly person with an unsteady gait, the hand holding the check or the provisions ready to give to a food pantry, the hand extended to someone who has offended us or to those we shun because of how society deems them unworthy, the touch of our hand placed on the hand of someone sorrowing or distressed…

Let us stretch out our hand and extend Christ like kindness to those who enter our life today.”Joyce Rupp

Even through these days of social distancing we still can reach out and touch one another in different ways. Jesus has only our hands to work with…

My reflection today:

“Always think on the bright side – no matter what life brings to your day. You’ll gain a treasure within your soul that no worry or hardship can ever take away.” Isaac Purcell

I remember saying to the teachers; if you dig a hole the students will climb into it but if you build a pedestal they will climb to get on it.
So much in life depends on our attitude. Two people can go through the exact same experience and have two different outlooks on what happened. Even in this difficult time we need to look for the bright spots.

My reflection is:

Ten Thoughts to Help You Avoid Discouragement by Donna Fargo
1. Look at life as a journey, and enjoy the ride. Get the most out of the detours, and realize they’re sometimes necessary.
2. Do your best, but if what you’ve been doing has caused you discouragement, try a different approach. Be passionate about the process, but don’t be so attached to the outcome.
3. Wish the best for everyone, with no personal strings attached. Applaud someone else’s win as much as you would your own.
4. Trust that there’s a divine plan, that we don’t always know what’s best for us. A disappointment now could mean a victory later, so don’t be disappointed. There is usually a reason.
5. Ask no more of yourself than the best that you can do, and be satisfied with that. Be compassionate toward yourself as well as others. Know you’re calling, your gift, and do it well.
6. Don’t worry about something after it’s done; it’s out of your hands then, too late, over! Learn the lesson and move on.
7. Have the attitude that no one, except you, owes you anything. Give without expecting a thank you in return. But when someone does something for you, be appreciative of even the smallest gesture.
8. Choose your thoughts or your thoughts will choose you; they will free you or keep you bound. Educate your spirit and give it authority over your feelings.
9. Judge no one, and disappointment and forgiveness won’t be an issue. No one can let you down if you’re not leaning on them. People can’t hurt you unless you allow them to.
10. Love anyway… for no reason… and give… just because.

Wow there is a lot to think about…
Let our Spirit guide us

My reflection today:

“Positive thinking is a habit, like any other; we can practice it every day until it becomes second nature to us – and along the way, transform our lives.” Washington L. Crowley

This is something that each one of us can work on each day. When I was teaching, I would ask the fourth grade students to make a list of all the things that they were good at and on the other side things that they were not good at. It always amazed me how the negative side was much easier for them to do then the positive traits. Let us hope that our country will begin looking at all the positive things that are going on and that have gone on in our country. Yes there are things that need to change but let us change them in an appropriate way. Let us pray to the Holy Spirit to inspire them.

My reflection today:

“Positive thinking is not the destination; it is the journey. An optimistic person will become challenged – by external circumstances as well as inner fears and doubts. Always remember that these tests are like a ladder you must climb. As you move past each rung, your optimism strengthens and your confidence begins to flex newly found muscle that you might never have developed otherwise.”
Montague Edwards

We certainly are facing many fears and doubts… with the pandemic, financial concerns, and all the unrest throughout the world. It is difficult to be optimistic but yet we are being strengthened through all of this. As difficult as things look, there are many gifts that have come out of this pandemic. Unfortunately the media just highlights all the negativity around us. Let us look and see where God is giving is newly formed muscle.?

My reflection today:

“ Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile… To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.” Christian D. Larson

I think these are words of wisdom for our country today. I was struck by “To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.” Our past is our history and we need to learn from it; tearing down statues does not resolve the issues at hand.
Let us move forward and become better more respectable people. Jesus has given us the way, we only need to follow it.?
